چکیده

In this article, the routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) problem for supporting multipointto-point communications in all-optical WDM mesh networks is investigated. Two efficient algorithms, namely Reverse Shortest Path Tree routing (RSPT) and kBounded Edge Disjoint Path routing (EDPR), are proposed. We proved that the problem of minimizing the total cost while establishing a multipoint-to-point session can be solved in polynomial time of O(|V |log|V |+ |V | + |E|) by the RSPT algorithm, where |V | and |E| denote the number of nodes and the number of edges in the network respectively. Nevertheless, the solution provided by the EDPR algorithm produces a significant reduction in the maximum number of wavelengths required per link (i.e., the link stress) for a multipointto-point session compared to RSPT algorithm. EDPR algorithm can also approximate to the optimal total cost with a ratio of k. Simulations are done to assess these two algorithms. Numerical results demonstrate A preliminary version of part of this work was presented in [17] at IEEE LCN 2009, Zürich. A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Optimal Multicast Routing Using Genetic Algorithm for WDM Optical Networks

We consider the multicast routing problem for large-scale wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks where transmission requests are established by point-to-multipoint connections. To realize multicast routing in WDM optical networks, some nodes need to have light (optical) splitting capability. A node with splitting capability can forward an incoming message to more than one outpu...

Dynamic Traffic Grooming using Fixed-Alternate Routing in WDM Mesh Optical Networks

There is a mismatch between lightpath channel capacity and traffic request capacity in wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical mesh networks. Traffic grooming is needed to resolve this mismatch in an efficient way. We study the dynamic traffic grooming problem in WDM mesh networks using the fixed-alternate routing (FAR) approach. Based on the FAR approach, we propose the fixed-order groom...

An Algorithm for Waveband Routing and Wavelength Assignment in Hierarchical WDM Mesh Networks

Aggregation of wavelengths into wavebands is an attractive, cost-efficient way to facilitate switching and routing in optical networks. In this paper, we study the waveband routing and wavelength assignment (WRWA) tasks in hierarchical WDM mesh networks with optical crossconnects that can route multiple granularity (wavelengths and wavebands) at the same time. We solve the waveband routing and ...
